Horizontal ADCP Current Profiler
HADCP-600
The HADCP-600 is a 600kHz horizontal acoustic Doppler current profiler designed for permanent, side-looking installation on riverbanks, bridge piers, and channel walls. Once mounted, it measures a continuous velocity profile across the channel — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — without a boat, without a survey crew, and without moving parts.
Overview
Paired with a stage sensor and a site-specific index-velocity rating, it delivers real-time or autonomously logged discharge data for hydrological monitoring networks, flood early warning systems, and irrigation canal management. Two horizontal beams capture cross-channel velocity structure; a third vertical beam provides water depth reference and surface detection.

Key Features
±0.3% ± 3mm/s Accuracy
Survey-grade velocity measurement with 1mm/s resolution. Direction sensing across 0–360° at ±2° accuracy — reliable enough for official discharge records.
90m Cross-Section Coverage
Horizontal profiling across channels up to 90m wide. Covers medium to large rivers, canals, and open-channel flow monitoring sites.
Horizontal Side-Looking Design
Fixed side-mount installation on a riverbank, bridge pier, or concrete plinth. No vessel needed — the instrument stays in place and measures continuously.
3-Beam Configuration
Two horizontal beams (±20°) for cross-channel velocity, plus one vertical beam for depth reference. Optimized for shallow, sediment-laden, or turbulent conditions.
Integrated Environmental Sensors
Built-in temperature (±0.1°C), pressure (±0.25%), and attitude sensors (roll/pitch/heading). One instrument provides the full data suite for a gauging station.
Configurable Cell Size
Adjustable cell thickness from 0.5m to 4m, up to 255 measurement layers. Tune the spatial resolution to your channel geometry and flow structure.

Why Choose the HADCP-600
Not just what it measures — why it’s the right instrument for your monitoring station.
Purpose-Built for Fixed Stations
Unlike a boat-deployed ADCP adapted for fixed installation, the HADCP-600 was designed from the ground up for permanent side-looking deployment — 3-beam geometry, POM housing, and 20m depth rating matched to its actual operating environment.
Light Enough for a 2-Person Install
At ≤9.8 kg and Φ300mm diameter, it can be carried to site, mounted on a bracket, and aligned without a crane or heavy equipment. This matters when your gauging station is down a dirt track.
Cost-Effective for Network Deployments
When you’re instrumenting 10, 20, or 50 stations across a national network, per-unit cost matters. The HADCP-600 delivers survey-grade accuracy at a price that makes wide-area coverage feasible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about the Ocean-ADCP-600-FA4
How does the HADCP-600 measure discharge without moving across the river?
It uses the index-velocity method. The two horizontal beams continuously measure water velocity along their beam paths. This velocity is correlated to full cross-section discharge through periodic calibration surveys — typically using a boat-mounted ADCP or mechanical current meter. Once the rating curve is established, the HADCP provides continuous discharge from the velocity measurement alone, updated every few minutes.
Why 3 beams — 2 horizontal + 1 vertical — instead of the 4-beam Janus configuration?
What is the minimum and maximum channel width for the HADCP-600?
What additional equipment is needed for a complete gauging station?
The HADCP-600 provides velocity data. A complete discharge station also requires: (1) a stage (water level) sensor — radar, bubbler, or pressure transducer, (2) a mounting bracket — fixed to a bridge pier, concrete plinth, or bank-retaining wall, (3) a power supply — mains, solar panel + battery, or internal battery pack, and (4) for real-time telemetry — a datalogger with cellular or satellite communication.
How often does the HADCP-600 need maintenance?
Can the HADCP-600 be retrofitted into an existing gauging station?
